This hand-crafted Viking brooch is a faithful reproduction of a historical piece found in Birka, Sweden, dating back to the Viking Age (approx. 800-1050 AD). Measuring 2.5 cm (a little bit under 1 inch) in diameter, the brooch is crafted entirely from fine silver using traditional techniques employed by Viking artisans.
The brooch features intricate filigree and granulation, with a central motif resembling a cross, characteristic of Viking decorative styles. Created using colloidal soldering, the process involves fusing silver at high temperatures—a technique that requires great skill and precision to avoid melting the entire piece. This challenging method reflects the craftsmanship of the original Viking artisans.
